City of Grosse Pointe Woods Proclamation
- AHEE JEWELERS is Presented with the following Proclamation from the City of Grosse Pointe Woods....
WHEREAS, the City of Grosse Pointe Woods takes great pride in commemorating the 60th Anniversary of EDMUND T. AHEE JEWELERS, and recognizing its generosity to our community, as well as those in need; and
WHEREAS, EDMUND T. AHEE'S first store was located in his uncle's bowling alley, and sold everything from appliances to jewelry, and within a couple years Edmund received an award for selling more Hoover vacuum than J.L. Hudson's department store; and
WHEREAS, in 1968, Edmund T. Ahee, moved his first store from Van Dyke and Harper to his present location on Mack Avenue, transforming a DeSoto dealership into a spectacular jewelry store. EDMUND T. AHEE JEWELERS continued to grow acquiring exquisite jewelry from the estate of Matilda Dodge-Wilson of Meadowbrook, and forming a strategical alliance with the world's largest diamond site holder; and
WHEREAS, EDMUND T. AHEE married Bettejean Joseph, raised a beautiful family, deeply instilling the lessons of good work ethics and giving back to one's community, Edmund and Bettejean Ahee received the St. Maron's Parent of the Year Award in 1983; and
WHEREAS, the generous efforts of EDMUND T. AHEE JEWELERS benefit the less fortunate with their Capuchin Souper Summer Celebration assisting the Capuchins with raising over $4,500,000 along with countless other charitable donations, including being one of the sponsors of the Annual Grosse Pointe Woods Fireworks display and receiving numerous awards, such as, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Angel Award, St. John's Hospital Guild's Philanthropic Award, the Nothdruft Humanitarian of the Year Award in 1993 and the Best Jeweler of the Year by National Jeweler Network in 2008; and
WHEREAS, in 1987 the City of Grosse Pointe Woods' Beautification Commission presented EDMUND T. AHEE JEWELERS with the first Landmark Award, a very prestigious award for continued excellence in beautification.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROBERT E. NOVITKE, Mayor of the City of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, extends our gratitude for 60 years of service to our community, as well as others and extend the best wishes of the City Council, staff, and the citizens of the City of Grosse Pointe Woods in all of its future endeavors.
